Interior Light Shelves

Interior light shelves direct daylight deep into a space by bouncing natural light from the light-colored shelves up to the ceiling, where it is reflected down to occupied areas. Blinds and other daylight control devices should be installed as part of a good daylight design strategy because uncontrolled natural light can cause glare.

O+M Tips

  • Use cleaning chemicals and solutions that are Green Seal certified
  • Dust with micro fiber cloth regularly

End of Life Tips

  • Usually reused by future occupants.

For alignment with LEED Standards

  • Daylight Penetration: Demonstrate through computer simulations that 75% or more of all regularly occupied spaces areas achieve daylight illuminance levels of a minimum of25 footcandle (fc) and a maximum of 500 fc in a clear sky condition on September 21 at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. OR Use a combination of side-lighting and/or top-lighting to achieve a total daylighting zone that is at least 75% or more of all the regularly occupied spaces.
