Thermostat


Description

A thermostat is a component of the HVAC controls system. Detection and communication of the space temperature is a critical component of overall HVAC controls. Most new thermostat controls are DDC. Older pneumatic systems can be upgraded to DDC for better control. Zone control is critical.


Tips

O+M Tips

  • Calibrate thermostats regularly, create a preventive maintenance program in accordance with manufacturer's specifications.
  • Pneumatic controls may need to be calibrated more frequently than DDC.

End of Life Tips

  • Usually reused by future occupants. If the mechanics fail, consider recycling metal and plastic components.

  • Thermal Comfort: Provide individual controls for at least 50% of individual occupant spaces to enable adjustment to suit individual needs and preferences.
